Harry Reinhold, US Army. Harry graduated from BU as an ROTC 2nd LT. He served 8 years in the Quartermaster branch of the US Army on active duty, and rose to the rank of major prior to resigning his commission. In 1966-67 he was in the Viet Nam Delta as an advisor.

While he as stationed in Viet Nam,  his wife heard the news of a specific Vietnamese unit being over-run and knew it was Harry’s unit.  She was convinced Harry had met his maker. As fate would have it, Harry was on a of radio assignment.  While operating the radio he heard and listened as his unit was over-run.  When Harry got to Saigon, he was able to call Eleanor and soothe her concerns.

During Harry’s Viet Nam tour he ran into classmate Kim Pruyne who was then an Air Force pilot. The chance meeting was near Can Tho, in
the Fourth Corps (IV Corps) area of the Viet Nam Delta.

After his second tour in Viet Nam, Harry was stationed in Chicago at the Federal Building.  It was a recruiting district, and spanned the time of the volatile Democratic National Convention.  As such, there were many guard duty responsibilities.

As our involvement in Viet Nam wound down, Harry left the Army’s active duty status but returned to the Army as a Reservist on weekends.  He became a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves, and earned the requisite number of retirement points.  Unfortunately he never directly benefitted because he was 56 years old when he died of a heart attack while playing golf.
